Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontic treatment straightens and moves teeth to improve the look of a smile and help ensure healthy teeth, gums and jaws. Straighter, more aligned teeth are easier to keep clean, which reduces the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. In addition, orthodontic treatment can help relieve symptoms of TMJ disorder. 남가좌동치과
Orthodontics can be beneficial for children and adults of all ages. However, it is particularly important to visit an orthodontist early in childhood, as this is when the most growth and development occurs. If the problem is not treated during this critical time, it can become more difficult to correct later on.
A wide range of appliances can be used in orthodontic treatment to move and straighten the teeth. The most common are braces, which consist of a combination of small brackets that are bonded to the front of each tooth and a flexible wire that is periodically tightened to gently train the teeth into alignment. They can be made of metal, ceramics or clear (“invisible”) materials. Additional devices that can be used include palatal expanders, headgear and facemasks.
There are a variety of reasons why people may have crooked teeth or other problems with their bite. Some of the most common issues that need to be corrected include:
Overbite – This is when the upper and lower teeth do not close properly, leaving gaps or overlaps in the teeth. Overbite is most common in children, and can be caused by thumb-sucking, tongue thrusting or prolonged use of a bottle or pacifier. It can also be genetic in origin, and is often exacerbated by poor dental hygiene.
Underbite – This is where the lower teeth are farther forward than the upper teeth. It can be the result of a narrow upper jaw, an undergrowth of the bones of the lower jaw or an abnormally shaped or sized set of teeth. In many cases, underbites can be resolved by simply expanding the upper jaw, and may not require any further treatment. 이일우치과
Crossbite – This is where the upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth, which can be the result of habits such as thumb-sucking or tongue thrusting, or it can be caused by a narrow upper jaw. It can lead to difficulties chewing and can increase the risk of gum disease, so it is important that this issue be addressed early on in life.
